Thailand Festivals – The Best Time to Visit Thailand And Enjoy Their Famous Festivals by Gissela Sheriow

Thailand is rich in festivals and frankly there is no time of year when you can not find a festival to enjoy, but here are some popular festivals around Thailand throughout the year.

Beginning the year, the month of January offers the Chiang Mai Winter Fair in Chiang Mai and the River of Kings Festival in Bangkok . Chiang Mai Winter Fair features booths, music, contests, and even beauty contests, while the Kings River Festival is a bit more formal with a theatrical production that tells the story of Thailand.

February this year continues to offer the Chiang Mai Flower Festival complete with a parade of floats covered with flowers and Bangkok's Chinatown Festival celebrating the Chinese New Year.

As the high season begins to relax, March brings ASEAN Barred Ground Dove Festival where pigeon owners around the country gather in the park Khwan Muang in Yala province to show their birds and compete for prizes.

April is the Thai New Year Festival in Pattaya, followed by the Songkran Festival, also held throughout the country, but it is particularly colorful in Khao San Road, Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

May is a special month of celebration with the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Bangkok which marks the beginning of the planning season rice and Visakha Bucha, a religious celebration held in the country of Buddha and Yasothon Rocket Festival which gives the most explosive rockets. It is a festival to open eyes and ears that will appeal to young and old alike.

December ended the year with a national celebration of King's birthday and Phuket King's Cup Regatta.
